The work further include paved roads, (11 600m²) ranging
from 5 to 7m in width, with the latter being a bus route. A storm
water reticulation system has been designed using 375mm diameter
concrete pipes in conjunction with catch pits to collect surface
run-off.
An emerging contractor (NW Civils) was appointed for the construction
of the project. He has utilized the community for employment of
local labour.
Labour Intensive Construction methods were implemented where
possible and construction activities such as the laying of pipes,
backfilling and finishing of trenches, small concrete works and
day works have been conducted by locally employed people.
Construction time has been influenced by factors such as excessive
rainfall, shallow occurrence of rock and the relocation of existing
graves that were found on the site. The project was completed
within the extended time and budget allocations.
