Gamopedi, Ncweng and Sedibeng are three rural villages located in the Kudumane District of the NW Province.

The primary objective of the project is the supply of adequate, safe clean water to the 6 000 inhabitants of the villages in accordance with the RDP and DWAF guidelines. A Basic Level of Supply of 25 l/c/d has been provided through communal standpipes located inside all villages at a maximum of 200m radius intervals.

Secondary to this, the project embraced empowerment, training and job creation. Community members were part of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) and will be involved in the project from planning to implementation and completion.

Community involvement included the PSC members and also the appointment of a Labour Desk Officer to manage labour affairs during the construction period.

Labour Intensive Construction methods were implemented where possible and construction activities such as the laying of pipes, backfilling and finishing of trenches, small concrete works and dayworks were conducted by locally employed people.

Labour wages amounting R349 000-00 have been paid out to local labour during the course of the project. On average 36% of all local labour consisted of women and youth, and preference of employment of local labour was given to single households.

The projects were completed within the set time and budget allocations as laid down by the PSC.
